On Upgrading and Low Post Volumes
Posted by inpheaux on December 31st, 2005 at 3:35 amWell, it looks like I'm going to be spending my New Year's Eve getting our slightly modded WordPress installation upgraded to the new release. As such, I'm going to hold off on posting much new stuff untill I can get everything upgraded. Kinda sad, too, as we've got two new reviews just about ready to [...]
Infinium nearing release of . . not the Phantom
Posted by inpheaux on December 28th, 2005 at 6:30 pmOh, Infinium Labs.
As what appears to be a desperate last-ditch effort, Infinium Labs announced today that after years upon years of "development" [which largely consisted of shamelessly mooching off of their investors], they are finally nearing the relase of a product. Said product, however, is not their Phantom Gaming Internet On-Demand Cable Distribution Console Platform [...]
Shall we play a Game?
Posted by inpheaux on December 26th, 2005 at 5:12 amHow about Global Thermonuclear War?
Introversion Software recently announced their third game. The followup to their two previous critically acclaimed indie games Uplink and Darwinia will be a game called Defcon. A quick look at either of the two screenshots currently released make it pretty clear: Defcon is a Global Thermonuclear War simulator.
Details are rather sparse [...]
StarForce vs. StrawMen
Posted by inpheaux on December 12th, 2005 at 5:57 pmLets talk about copy protection for a moment. Piracy in the PC gaming scene has always been around - always - and the ever-present piracy boogeyman has led to a constantly escalating arms-race in copy protection techniques. We've long since passed the days of creative copy protection, like the types found in old Lucasarts SCUMM [...]

Good news for King’s Quest Fans
Posted by King_Andy on December 10th, 2005 at 1:59 pmAs a follow up to our story about Vivendi Universal Games (current owners of Sierra Entertainment) shutting down fan-made sequels to their beloved franchises, we have some good news. "Kings Quest IX: Every Cloak Has A Silver Lining" from Phoenix Online Studios is back on track and has been given a 'fan license' to [...]
Acclaim is back, in Zombie MMO-porting form
Posted by inpheaux on December 10th, 2005 at 1:19 pmYou know what we obviously need? We need a stateside MMO game scene as ridiculously crowded as it is in Korea, the land where there are more MMO's being released every week than pop albums. The only country in the world that has taken EA-Style shovelware game-development practices and successfully applied it to the MMO [...]
Another Dose of Infinium Comedy
Posted by inpheaux on November 21st, 2005 at 12:24 pmHooray! It's time for some more news from Infinium, everyone's favorite vaporware developer, which has been gleefully milking venture capitalists for what seems like aeons now. So, what are they up to this time? Well, it's been a few months since the last shake-up of their "corporate leadership", so clearly, it's time for that to [...]
Nintendo of Japan makes Mother 3 Official
Posted by inpheaux on November 7th, 2005 at 10:32 amI've got a quick little Monday-morning update on the status of Mother 3. Nintendo of Japan confirmed its existence today by putting up an incredibly sparse Japanese Official Site. The nice fluent-in-moonspeak people over at Starmen.net clarified that the bit at the bottom mentions that the game will be released in Japan in Spring 2006. [...]
