Week-1 Recap / Update

Posted by inpheaux on July 15th, 2005 at 11:38 am

Right! Well, we've made it through our first week of existence, and I think we're doing quite well for a new site. Few things I'd like to cover before getting back to Real News. First, I've made a few tweaks to the design of the site. It's nothing major or noticable really, just know that if something looks weird you may have a cached image somewhere. Hit Ctrl+F5 to fix it. If Ctrl+F5 doesn't fix it, please let me know on the forums.

Second item is that this weekend we'll be changing our old home at Jedi-Outcast.com as a full-on redirect. I've got a low-fi design cooked up that'll explain the move and redirect, rather than show the full site we have right now and expect people to read and follow through. After a month or two of that, the site's old content will come back with a new redesign, but stay as a small static site.

Next Up: Contact Form. In the big Suggestion Box thread on the forums, Sidious suggested that we get some clear contact info up on the site. This took a bit, as I didn't want to set up another worthless, poorly managed spam-attracting e-mail-only dropbox like we did with J-O.com, so instead I set up a new system that should work quite nicely for us. To use it, head over to the new Contact page and fill out the form. Use this if you have news tips for us to report on or if you want to help write for the site. If you have a news tip, just explain it and give us a source to work off of. If you want to write for us, submit a sample article / column / review / news post / whatever. Either way, we'll get it and discuss it amongst ourselves, and get back to you if necessary.

Finally, it appears I might not have made myself clear when I opened the site and announced it a couple places. We're totally open. If you want to tell all your e-friendz about that great new gaming news site the guys from J-O.com started, please feel free to do so! We love free advertising. And to me, advertising coming from actual people making site recommendations is far more valuable than us launching some actual traditional advertising campaign.

So, that's where we're at right now. Time to get back to real news.
