Infinium Labs still not dead

Posted by inpheaux on July 19th, 2005 at 11:23 am

I had to make a 'Humor' category just for this article.

I love the Phantom. I love how it's a giant shameless scam to rake in venture capital, I love how they somehow dragged Kevin Bacchus into it, I love how their WORLD HEADQUARTERS is in a strip mall in Sarasota, I love how even if the Phantom somehow materializes it will still be absolutely irrelevant in the current game market. But most of all, I love how I can depend on Infinium Labs to always be there to brighten my day with some kind of hilarious drama or retarded stunt relating to the Phantom.

Unfortunately, earlier this year I thought we had heard the last from them. News from Infinium Labs kinda dried up and blew away last year. Their absense from E3 2005 seemed to indicate that they were done for, since they generally show up to shout a lot and have people play shareware games on a normal PC behind a curtain. Though, considering the previous bits of news from them, about how they ran out of money aeons ago, and nearly all of their staff quit when they realized those paychecks just wouldn't be coming, who exactly would they have to sit in a booth? I'm pretty sure all they have left is Kevin Bacchus, The Guy who started it whose name escapes me, and a mountain of debt the size of the Moon.

So, why am I talking about Infinium Labs? Well, apparently last week the USPTO handed them a trademark for "Phantom" and "Phantom Gaming Service", and they issued a press release to the effect of "We totally aren't dead, and now we have A TRADEMARK! SO THERE!" I'm so happy they aren't dead, this means there's still some comedy to be squeezed from their Phantom Internet End-to-End Broadband Gaming Internet Service On the Internet for Games On-Demand.
