GPL Quake III Source Coming Soon

Posted by inpheaux on August 12th, 2005 at 9:37 pm

QuakeCon 2005 is in full swing now, and earlier today was John Carmack's keynote speech. In between talking about general stuff like the state of the gaming industry and his thoughts regarding next-gen consoles, he mentioned that the Quake III source code release would be released within the next week. As with previous id [...]

Stargate SG-1: The Alliance back from the dead

Posted by inpheaux on August 12th, 2005 at 9:47 am

It sucks posting all these retractions, but I think in this case you'll just have to forgive us. JoWooD, the game's publisher, are apparently a bunch of hotheaded jerks who weren't getting their way, so they pushed out a press release full of what may be flat-out lies. Or maybe they aren't, who really knows? [...]

Jurors officially don’t buy the GTA defense

Posted by inpheaux on August 10th, 2005 at 1:05 pm

I hate that this kind of news story is out there, but at least it turned out alright. Guess what, kids? Games don't make you kill people. Games aren't an excuse. Stop trying to use them as a catch-all for all the world's ailments. Don't even try, because no one who matters is going to [...]

Half-Life 2: Aftermath Teaser-trailer

Posted by inpheaux on August 10th, 2005 at 11:40 am

The teaser-trailier for the upcoming expansion pack to Valve's critically acclaimed Half-Life 2 premiered a week ago at the taping of G4's yearly feature-length commercial "G-Phoria", and since G-Phoria actually aired last night (and was, as expected, unbelievably horrible), the trailer has finally found it's way onto the internets.
I've tried finding a better link than [...]

Stargate SG-1: The Alliance Scrapped

Posted by inpheaux on August 8th, 2005 at 1:40 pm

Good news and bad news for you today. Bad news: the FPS adaptation of Stargate SG-1, "The Alliance", has been scrapped. Good news: it's because the producers would rather ditch years of development if it prevents a horrible game from being released.
Here's what happened. MGM Interactive, the gaming wing of MGM and holders of the [...]

Revolution Controller Design Tool

Posted by inpheaux on August 6th, 2005 at 1:43 pm

You've probably noticed by now that unlike some other sites, we don't consider controller mockups or hilariously fake "design renders" as news. We don't report on these items because, seriously, who cares? Posting such things as news places a site alongside such other paragons of journalistic integrity as the Weekly World News.
However, we just couldn't [...]

Nebulous Metroid Prime 3 information

Posted by inpheaux on August 4th, 2005 at 7:07 pm

Yes, this is Nintendo Revolution-related news. Yes, this means you can very easily just go somewhere else now because you won't actually learn anything whatsoever.
As much as I love Nintendo and everything they or their developers do, the effective media blackout they've got going on right now is getting somewhat annoying. It'd be one thing [...]

Dungeon Siege II Demo is out, and unbelievably large

Posted by inpheaux on August 3rd, 2005 at 4:16 pm

Microsoft and Gas Powered Games released the Single Player Demo of Dungeon Siege II a few minutes ago. I don't really have anything to say about it right this second because it isn't anywhere near done downloading. See, the demo - and let me remind you, this is a demo - is 1.6 GB installed. [...]

Yesterday, Sony announced the releasedate for the North American PSP 2.0 Firmware update - August 12th. The update will have all the same features present in the Japanese firmware released in mid-July (such as the highly-anticipated PSP web browser), with the bonus feature of not voiding your warranty like Sony says installing the Japanese 2.0 [...]

More Blizzard News: Blizzard North closes up shop, moves South

Posted by inpheaux on August 2nd, 2005 at 3:01 am

A month or so ago I was at a lanparty, and in between prolonged sessions of obliterating attendees in Unreal Tournament 2004 I got into a discussion on the subject of "Just exactly what is Blizzard doing right now?" This was pretty easy to answer, normal Blizzard was doing WoW stuff, Swingin' Ape had been [...]
