Quake 4 Goes Gold

Well, the PC version at least. Earlier today, after all these years of development, the final build of Quake 4 was wrapped up and sent off to manufacturing.
In case you haven't been paying attention, Quake 4 is the sequel to Quake II. It puts players in the shoes of an Earth Defense Force grunt, fighting off massive biomechanical invaders - the Strogg. Apart from an actual real single player campaign, something sorely lacking from Quake 3, Quake 4 is expected to also have a solid multiplayer mode. We still don't really know if it'll really live up to the expectations set forth by Quake 3 arguably unparalleled multiplayer experience, but hey, anything's better than the lame four player stuff we got from Doom 3, right?
Since it went gold today, Quake 4 should quite easily make it's expected release date of October 18th. So look for it in stores then, in CD and DVD editions.
If for some reason you don't feel your computer is going to be able to handle the awesome might of a Doom-3-engine game, and are content with waiting awhile, an Xbox360 port is expected to be released at or around the same time as the console's release in mid November.
