Acclaim is back, in Zombie MMO-porting form
Posted by inpheaux on December 10th, 2005 at 1:19 pmYou know what we obviously need? We need a stateside MMO game scene as ridiculously crowded as it is in Korea, the land where there are more MMO's being released every week than pop albums. The only country in the world that has taken EA-Style shovelware game-development practices and successfully applied it to the MMO genre. Where games aren't epic failures full of wonderous hilarity like Star Wars Galaxies, but are instead little tiny failures, that people play for the four weeks that doing so is considered hip and fashionable, and then everyone goes back to playing World of Warcraft.
The only problem is that the Korean MMO Scene is often a walled city, requiring Korean identification to sign up. Then again, maybe this is a good thing, protecting us from the games. Well, one Howard Marks has decided that this barrier is a bad thing that needs to be destroyed, so he set up a company to start importing and localizing Korean MMO's, destined for North America and Europe.
But what's the catch? What makes this notable? He's doing it under the Acclaim moniker.
Great, so we'll have foreign MMO shovelware under the incredibly trustworthy name of Acclaim. I can't wait!!!
