Official Out of this World remake out this Friday

15 years after the original release, and an untold number of ports later to every platform under the sun, Out of this World (or Another World if you're from foreign parts) is coming back to the PC. Earlier today (or yesterday, or tomorrow, or something. Damn you, timezones!) Out of this World's creator, Eric Chahi, announced that he has spent the past few months producing a remake of his now-classic entrance into the world of game development.

In an interview with the French fansite Factor News, Eric announced that he'll be releasing his revamped remake of Out of this World on his site this Friday, 14 APR 2006. There'll be a demo of the visually overhauled (but still true to the original) game, plus a full version for the bargain basement price of 5 euros, or around $6.

When he was asked why he went back to Out of this World, Eric explained that it was largely due to the GBA fan-port released last year. He apparently wanted to port it to GBA for some time, but was unable to due to the exhorbitant cost of cartridges and the fact that the publishing rights to the game were out of his hands at the time. This renewed interest resulted in him re-securing all rights to the game, and in-turn led to this remake.

So, how do you remake a 15 year old game, make it better, but still keep it true to the original? Well, it seems like you just redo all the graphics at a higher resolution, keep all the gameplay elements the same (since they weren't broken in the first place), and then release it for a ridiculously cheap price so no one can complain about it. It looks pretty good, too. Check it out: old v. new. Clearly worth $6.
