Pre-E3 - New Spore footage released

Posted by inpheaux on May 6th, 2006 at 3:28 pm

Two quick bits of good news and bad news regarding Maxis' upcoming super-game Spore.

Good news: someone leaked a press video reel, which will be showing up on tv next week. It starts off with the same sort of generic amazing Spore footage we've seen before, with some character creation and flying around and such, but then we get some new bits. Specifically, some segments showing the new HUD/UI, others showing hot hot city vs. spaceship battles, and a couple new planet varieties can be seen throughout them all. Good stuff all around. This is, of course, just scratching the surface of what we expect to see about Spore at E3, but we'll have to wait till we see it in person for that.

Now for the bad news: EA says Spore won't be out in 2006, and furthermore won't even be out in EA's forthcoming fiscal year which ends in March 2007. Are you ready to wait until at least April 2007 for Spore? I'm certainly not. We love letting developers take their time to make a game as good as it possibly can be before release, but . . damn. Sometimes we just want it now, you know?

We'll be trying to ask Will Wright the hard-hitting questions at E3 if we can fight through the nerd orgy that will most likely be surrounding him at all times. Hard-hitting questions like "So, how do you expect EA is going to screw this up?" Hopefully he'll actually answer us, but . . we'll see.
