E3 Day One Pictures

Posted by inpheaux on May 11th, 2006 at 9:37 am

I promised I'd find time to do a proper E3 Daily recap, but yesterday afternoon I quickly found that I had seriously over-exerted myself and was accordingly the most exhausted I've been in years.

So while I don't have a ton of time to say everything I want to at the moment, as we're getting ready for day two right now, I do have pictures. So here, check out my first day's worth of E3 pictures, contained in our brand new shiny DPad Image Gallery.

So I don't leave you guys hanging hoping for more Actual Content, here's a short set of Day One Awards:

  • Most Intersting Booth - By far, Nintendo. Specificially the Wii section. It consistently had the longest line of anything at the show, and was completely worth it. Some time in the next 24 hours I PROMISE to find time to write up Wii hands-on impressions.
  • Most Surprising Video - Supreme Commander Promo video. They took us into a little booth with a huge stereo system and four nicely sized HDTV's to see this thing. It was absolutely amazing. It looked better than the screenshots we've seen so far. Possibly the absolute prettiest RTS I have ever seen in my life. What's best is that after the presentation, I made a point to hunt down a THQ employee who's been working on the game. I found a guy who's been working on internal QA for Supreme Commander, and he was able to confirm that it was all in-game footage.
  • Most Depressing Booth - Everything in Kentia Hall that wasn't RedOctane. You can be told how sad Kentia Hall is as many times as you want, but it doesn't really sink in untill you get there. Seriously.
  • Most Hilarious Demo - "Left Behind: The Game" at the Nvidia booth. Hilarious first because it's Left Behind: The Game. Second because they are totally serious. Third for the quote "Yes, but the EVIL ANTICHRIST FORCES have ROCK STARS! Not to say that ROCK MUSIC IS EVIL or anything, but THE ANTICHRIST COMMANDS THEM. But it's ok because you get ANGELS." Finally, it was hilarious for the fact that it ran horribly and this was at the Nvidia booth. The machine they were demoing it on was an SLI rig, most likely running two 7800's. If you can't get you game to run on that, you've got problems. Perhaps they need to pray for better-optimized code.

Right, well we're heading off for day two now. I spent most of my time over in West Hall with Sony / Nintendo on day one, today will mostly be over in South, checking out all the offerings Microsoft & friends have to show off. So, off we go.
