E3 Pictures / Wrapup / Impressions / etc - SOON
Posted by inpheaux on May 13th, 2006 at 7:38 amWell, I just got back home from my week in LA. While boarding my flight out of LAX, a guy next to me was having some guarded conversation with his wife. They kept looking at me intently and going back to their conversation. As I had just finished three incredibly exhausting days, and was not up for dealing with much crap at that point, I asked them point blank what the hell they were looking at.
And the guy just says "You. You're one of those gamer guys, right?" Now, I wasn't like some of the other people I saw heading into LAX, dragging their glossy shopping-bag-esque Xbox 360 schwag bags, wearing ill-fitting XL Nvidia tshirts and freebie Call of Duty 3 hats. I was just another nondescript guy trying to get on the plane. But I guess I fit the profile. I told him "Yes, but I'm a very tired gamer, who would like to go sleep for a few hours now".
Having finally now returned to my place, I'm planning on getting the sleep I was missing out on all week. Five hours of sleep plus 7-9 hours of wandering around and geeking out is not a combination I endorse for extended periods of time. However, once I wake up, it's all about doing the work I planned on doing during the week.
Later tonight I'll have the rest of our photo galleries up. Day Two galleries from myself and Vinnie will be up first, followed shortly thereafter by our two sets of Day Three galleries. After that - probably sunday - I'll be posting day-by-day recaps and impressions. I got a lot of this kind of stuff down on paper or tape, but never had time to get it online.
Then, some time Monday after the nice people from Verizon finish giving me brand new shiny internets, there'll be a whole event wrapup. But just as a quick taste, here's my rundown of the current / upcoming state of the console scene, based on my E3 2006 experiences:
- Nintendo wins.
- Sony is disorganized, unpolished and woefully incomplete.
- Microsoft is stable, decently polished, but largely unimpressive.
I will fully justify each of these statements over the next couple days. Right now, though, I've had enough.
