Sony announces “Playstation Signature Series”

There are certain companies whose product makes such an impact over time that simply marketing their image becomes intensely profitable and becomes a large part of their operation. Ferrari plasters the prancing horse on sunglasses, letter openers, laptops, and the like. Harley Davidson makes a healthy living selling emblems that prove you are a hardcore biker... maybe. Next on the "you love us so much you WILL buy our shit" train? Sony Computer Entertainment and the breathtaking Playstation Signature collection.
Bearing the timeless SQUARE TRIANGLE X CIRCLE hieroglyph, these status-embiggening items will let your pompous friends know you have truly arrived. How did we do without such fantastic accessories as the Playstation wineglass (only white has been shown thus far, let's hope they don't let the red fans down!)? Where did your PSP live before you bought the etched glass PSP stand, or the crocodile leather PSP case? In filth and squalor no doubt. Write with style and confidence with the Playstation ballpoint pen set. And save for your imminent PS3 purchase with the official Playstation Wallet. Rumors say possible features include a wormhole that automatically whisks all money directly to Sony headquarters.
While it's doubtful this beautiful kit will make it stateside (I know, you're heartbroken) the biggest kick I get out of it is this: It will sell. Japanese youth have relatively tremendous disposable incomes, and sadly Sony is such a behemoth that they can pull this crap and look no sillier than Ferrari. It's the same principle that is going to sell PS3s not only in Japan, but also in the US- despite the collective petulant whine the internet community squeaked out upon the pricing release. The name carries weight. Having worked in retail, it is abundantly clear that you could shit in a box, write SONY on it and sell it for thirty bucks, no questions asked. It's a little sad, but console wars are like presidential elections. Let's hope the PS3 proves its mettle because it's going to be voted in anyway.
