EU Release date for Opera DS - 06 OCT 2006
Posted by inpheaux on July 20th, 2006 at 11:50 pmNintendo of Europe, masters of inexplicable delays, have been kicking things into gear lately. Just look at their how they managed to get the DS Lite out the door in a reasonable timeframe, and in black, too!
This time, they've beat Nintendo of America to the punch on publishing a release date for the highly anticipated Opera browser for the DS. Looks like it'll be out in areas served by Nintendo of Europe on 6 OCT 2006. This is worth noting because Opera DS doesn't get released in Japan until next Monday. Nintendo of Europe? Announcing a release date for something before it's available anywhere?! I'm as shocked as you are! Possibly more!
Now, if we assume a standard release schedule of JP -> US -> EU -> Everywhere Else, this puts a potential US release . . well . . any time over the next two months. Conveniently in the same place that nebulous release date has been ever since the 24 JUL 2006 Japanese release date was announced. Some sources are claiming a release date of 30 JUL 2006, but gee, a Sunday? Nintendo of America only releases major hardware on Sundays, and Opera DS is still being classed as software, despite the fact that it comes with a ram expansion cart.
Hopefully we'll get some kind of announcement from NOA over the coming weeks, and when we do, you'll see it here. In the meantime, here's a video of some of the stuff it'll do.
