DPad sorta goes to SIGGRAPH 2006

This year the Association for Computing Machinery's SIGGRAPH convention was on the East coast for the first time in about a decade, thereby enabling me to attend it. SIGGRAPH-the-organization is a subset of the ACM, specifically the "Special Interest Group on Graphics and Interactive Techniques". Every year they hold a nice big convention (also conveniently called SIGGRAPH) about computer graphics, VR, augmented reality, and all that kind of stuff, showing both actual commercial products and services and weird cutting-edge experimental stuff.

SIGGRAPH is not actually gaming oriented, it's aimed more at the animation and special effects market, but because these are generally the technologies game developers use as a baseline, there's always a bunch of stuff that could have interesting effects on games, especially since we're entering an age of highly increased realism in games, and thanks to forthcoming systems like the Nintendo Wii, increased immersion due to new input methods.

So here's a quick recap of all the neat stuff I happened to see earlier this week: SIGGRAPH 2006 Recap.
