Duke Nukem Forever’s dev team evaporates

Posted by inpheaux on August 30th, 2006 at 8:39 pm

This news may be too shocking and completely unexpected for some users.

Looks like a large chunk of DNF's dev team has managed to escape the crazy grasp of George Broussard, King of Delays, Master of Vaporware. Shacknews has learned that over the past 8 months anywhere from a third to a majority of the dev team has left 3D Realms, thus leaving Broussard's never-ending pet project significantly short-staffed and even less likely to ever see the light of day.

Here, have a quote:

"Developers confirmed to have left 3D Realms since last December include Scott Alden, Will Bate, Brian Cozzens, Kyle Davis, Andy Hanson, Keith Schuler, and Charlie Wiederhold. Some of the former employees headed up crucial game systems such as physics, animation, and rendering. Notably, Schuler is a sixteen year veteran of Apogee and 3D Realms. Our sources indicate that while the game's team has reached a size of about 24-28 developers, recently it has been closer to 18, meaning these current departures may actually comprise a majority of the team."

Sounds just super, right? The Shack goes on to suggest that this mass exodus (though it did take 8 or so months to occur. Can exoduses be slow?) may be a sign that Broussard is about ready to throw in the towel and hand what they've accomplished over the past 9 years (assumed to be a Word document entitled "A list of cool guns we asked our forums to dream up") to some other more accomplished developer.

When asked to comment, 3D Realms' webmaster said "When it's done" and proceeded to lock and stick the thread. Shocking!
