Double Fine scores a publishing contract with Vivendi Games

Things were kinda sketchy there for awhile, between the falling out with Majesco (and Majesco's implosion that followed shortly thereafter) and heading into the bunker of non-communication that most developers head to when they start a new project, but it all seems to have worked out nicely for Tim Schafer and friends at Double Fine. Yesterday Vivendi Games announced a partnership that will have Vivendi Games publishing Double Fine's next game under the "Sierra Entertainment" banner.
From the press release:
"The Sierra team has been awesome to work with," said Tim Schafer, president and CEO of Double Fine Productions. "Everyone we've met brings experience from a small developer background, so they know where we're coming from and what we have to do to make a great game. Combine a developer-friendly attitude, support for innovation, major-publisher status with a worldwide scope and you have a perfect match for Double Fine."
Tim certainly sounds excited, and he should be. This deal means they have any cash-flow problems at Double Fine like the ones they ran into during the development of Psychonauts after Microsoft dropped them.
Both the press release and the always wonderful Double Fine Action News have been very tight lipped about what this new game actually is. It's been vaguely alluded to in posts like this one, but apart from that, we just sorta know that there is a new game, and that's it. Don't know what platform it'll be for though it's pretty safe to assume 360, PC, and maybe PS3. Wii if we're really lucky. Oh, and we've heard rumors it may in some how involve metal. Yes, the music genre. All you need to know is that whatever it is, it'll be amazing, whenever it actually gets released.
But hey, at least they have a publisher now, so there's no longer a question of if they'll run out of cash before the game gets finished.
