Still can’t find a Wii or PS3? Amazon will hook you up.
Posted by inpheaux on December 16th, 2006 at 5:37 pm. . . If you're lucky.
For the past couple weeks, Amazon has been running a "Customers Vote" program, where every week they put up a selection of three products which are either hard to find, or are at a severely reduced price. The first deal they ran was an Xbox 360 Core system for $100. . . but there's a catch: it's a lottery. You sign up, pick an item, wait a few days, and then see if you were randomly selected to be allowed to buy it. In previous weeks, there were three items, and you only got the chance to buy at the listed price if you picked the most-popular option, but luckily, this week is different.
This week, the three items are a 20GB PS3, a 60GB PS3 and a Wii, and there's no "winning item" stuff, no matter which you pick, you have a chance to be allowed to buy it.
So here's how it works: First, you need to already have an Amazon account (who doesn't have an Amazon account?), and it needs to have been registered before 12 DEC 2006. Next, you need to head over here and pick which one you want. Your odds of "winning" are changing as people sign up, but at the moment your odds of winning a shot at the 20GB PS3 are roughly 2:1, the 60GB PS3 is at about 15:1 and your chances of getting a Wii are around 6:1. Pick which system you think you want before 11:59 PM PST Sunday night. Then you just have to wait until next Tuesday, when you'll find out if you get to buy one or not.
The one timeframe that Amazon aren't being entirely clear about is when you'll be getting your chosen system if you win, but based on when they're doing it, there's a chance that you might get it before Christmas. And if you're still looking for a PS3 or Wii and aren't down with camping out infront of a Best Buy for 36 hours, this is probably your best chance to get one of either system for MSRP before the end of the year. So go pick, and good luck!
