Guitar Hero III confirmed, headed to ALL PLATFORMS

And I mean ALL OF THEM. PS2. PS3. 360. Wii.

Today, Activision announced the forthcoming third (or fourth if you count 80's) installment of the Guitar Hero series. The formula is staying the same, but with a few key upgrades:

  • Developer: Neversoft (For real, this time. Apparently Harmonix is still on board for 80's.)
  • Platforms: Everything. PS2, PS3, 360, Wii.
  • Release Date: Fall 2007
  • Guitars: All wireless models, PS3, 360 and Wii get a Les Paul, while the PS2 will get a Kramer of unknown model.
  • Online Modes: "Expanded Online Multiplayer". I'll believe this when I see it.
  • Downloadable Content: In. For multiple platforms. Probably just means PS3/360, though. Unless Nintendo gets their theoretical Wii Marktetplace up and running in time.
  • Master Tracks: Totally in. We're supposed to get more master tracks than GH2, though probably not as many as Rock Band's supposed 100% originals.
  • Track Listing: OUTSTANDING. Strongest initial showing so far.

And about that track listing:

  • The Rolling Stones - Paint It Black
  • The Smashing Pumpkins - Cherub Rock
  • Beastie Boys - Sabotage
  • Tenacious D - The Metal
  • Weezer - My Name is Jonas
  • Muse - Knights of Cydonia
  • KISS - Rock And Roll All Nite
  • Alice Cooper - School's Out
  • Fog Hat - Slow Ride
  • Living Colour - Cult of Personality
  • Heart - Barracuda

So . . Wow. Simultaneous release on your platform of choice, online stuff, wireless controllers, more master tracks, amazing initial setlist, it's looking like this one is going to be nearly impossible to screw up. So maybe I should have a little faith in Neversoft. But they should also keep in mind that if they do manage to screw this up, we will have their heads on spikes. The enraged horde will be unstoppable.
