id’s new game gets a title, hints of a release on all platforms
Posted by inpheaux on August 3rd, 2007 at 9:34 pmThe product previously called "id Technology 5" has got a name now, as announced at Quakecon. That name is "Rage". Before ragging on this name, please remember that this is from the company that brought you such creative names as "Doom" and "Quake", and look how those turned out.
During the Quakecon keynote, John Carmack stated that the game would ship on "two DVDs and one Blu-ray disc". That seems to indicate it's targeted for PS3 in addition to the known platforms of PC, Mac and Linux. And I'm going to make a stand and venture a guess that they'll shoot for getting it out on the 360, too. Here's my reasoning: Rage is id's new flagship game. Like all their previous flagship games, they're making it to make and sell a game, but also to serve as a showcase for their new engine. Since licensing out their engine is where a company like id really makes their mountains of cash, it's in their best interests to get it out on as many platforms as humanly possible, so leaving out a major platform like the Xbox 360 would be foolish.
There was also a neat new trailer, but it hasn't shown up yet online. When it does, I'll post it up in the comments.
