Directional Pad is not a major corporation. We are not owned and operated by a multinational media conglomerate. We do not have a staff of hundreds and a budget of millions. I could go on about all of the various things we aren't, but that gets boring after awhile.
We're a close-knit crew of gamers who've been hanging out online in one way or another for the past 8 years or so. Inbetween marathon sessions of whatever we were playing at the time, we've had several excursions into the wonderful world of the gaming press. Some of us were involved in mod sites, some with level reviews, an odd fansite or two, help forums, etc . . but never really news. Until recently.
In 2001 we launched a fansite for the LucasArts game 'Jedi Outcast', the aptly-named Jedi-Outcast.com, and got our feet wet there. We quickly grew to a rather astonishing size, and ended up being one of the most popular and most widely-visited sites specific to the game.
Unfortunately, in today's climate you can't expect one series of games to sustain a website forever. So here we are four years later, taking on the gaming news industry head-on - and at such a wonderful time, too! Generation changes are always a major shift in the industry; things end, things begin, and there's more hype out there than most people can really handle. So who do you want sifting through the news and filtering out the hype? Giant corporations or people like you?
We hope you're looking for the latter, because that's what you'll find here. Just a bunch of guys on the internet who enjoy playing and writing about games. People completely unafraid to give our unfiltered opinions of games. It's not like we're going to piss off our advertisers or corporate backing, because we don't have any. That covers who we are, where we came from, and why you should consider listening to us. If you have any other questions, hit our forums.
