Followup: Clover Studios returns as SEEDS

Posted by inpheaux on February 14th, 2007 at 8:36 pm

Clover Studios being disbanded last October was some of the most depressing gaming news of 2006. They had just shipped their long-awaited and now critically acclaimed Okami, and Capcom showed them the door. Luckily, the rumors we brought up in the previous article - that Clover wanted to break from Capcom, and do stuff on [...]

Posted by inpheaux on January 25th, 2007 at 4:33 pm

Word on the street earlier in the week was that we'd be getting some hefty UT 2007 news today. As expected, we did. Also as expected, it's not all good. We just can't always have nice things, can we? First change: The name. They've given up on the "Unreal Tournament 2007" name. The game is [...]

Posted by inpheaux on January 17th, 2007 at 8:24 am

Today, from the "didn't see that one coming" department, we have word from GameDaily that it looks like the development torch of the Guitar Hero franchise has been passed from Harmonix to Neversoft, developers of the Tony Hawk series of games. There's no official announcement, no in-depth explanations, just the fact that Neversoft's website is [...]

Gamespot deploys all-360 advertising for their PS3 subsection

Posted by inpheaux on November 30th, 2006 at 6:59 pm

Sometimes these things just write themselves. Today, Gamespot unveiled a new overbearing gigantic ad-filled version of one of their pages. This is nothing new, and isn't the punchline. Most of us remember the glory that was McIGN, but I feel this goes a step (or seventeen) too far. The page in question was their PS3 [...]

In a shocking followup to a story from last week, where Sony successfully got the grey-market import shop Lik-Sang to stop exporting Sony products from Hong Kong to Europe, Lik-Sang has closed down entirely. No further orders on anything will be taken. All un-filled purchases will be cancelled. Everything will be refunded. In their going-away-notice, [...]

Here's a great way to start your day: the Halo movie just lost all its funding. Variety is reporting that late last week Universal called a meeting on behalf of themselves and Fox, who were co-funding the film, with the guys actually making the film to discuss budget stuff. They called this meeting right before [...]

Capcom dissolves Clover Studios

Posted by inpheaux on October 12th, 2006 at 11:33 am

I'm not sure what to say, apart from stating that this is probably some of the worst news I've heard in quite awhile. Clover Studios, a subsidiary of Capcom, developers responsible for the Viewitful Joe games, God Hand and Okami, are being dissolved. This doesn't mean all the developers from Clover are now out of [...]

PS3 gets an upgrade and price drop in Japan

Posted by inpheaux on September 23rd, 2006 at 9:34 pm

Oh, Sony. Not even out of the gate yet, and you're already having to drop MSRP to make your product relevant. The Tokyo Game Show took place last week, and during Sony's keynote, Ken Kutaragi dropped two last-minute changes. First item: Upgrade. HDMI is in now, for real, on both models of PS3. No, you [...]

Harmonix to be acquired by MTV for $175 Mil

Posted by inpheaux on September 22nd, 2006 at 11:54 am

According to the New York Times, MTV is slated to pick up Harmonix immediately for $175 Million in cash. The article says it's more than just a branding thing, citing some crazy stuff about "expanding web channels" and "remixing songs", but really it boils down to branding. MTV obviously wants some street cred, and having [...]
