New batch of games available on Steam

Posted by inpheaux on September 14th, 2006 at 3:31 pm

It seems like every other week Valve is hopping in bed with some new publisher or developer to push their stuff out via Steam. And to think that some people said online delivery via Steam would never take off. First it was X2 and X3 popping up without Starforce, then Popcap dumping all their games [...]

Here's the essentials:

Price: $250

Wii Sports is now a pack-in.

Legend [...]

Double Fine scores a publishing contract with Vivendi Games

Posted by inpheaux on September 8th, 2006 at 1:08 pm

Things were kinda sketchy there for awhile, between the falling out with Majesco (and Majesco's implosion that followed shortly thereafter) and heading into the bunker of non-communication that most developers head to when they start a new project, but it all seems to have worked out nicely for Tim Schafer and friends at Double Fine. Duke Nukem Forever’s dev team evaporates

Posted by inpheaux on August 30th, 2006 at 8:39 pm

This news may be too shocking and completely unexpected for some users.
Looks like a large chunk of DNF's dev team has managed to escape the crazy grasp of George Broussard, King of Delays, Master of Vaporware. Shacknews has learned that over the past 8 months anywhere from a third to a majority of the dev [...]

DPad sorta goes to SIGGRAPH 2006

Posted by King_Andy on August 5th, 2006 at 6:59 pm

This year the Association for Computing Machinery's SIGGRAPH convention was on the East coast for the first time in about a decade, thereby enabling me to attend it. SIGGRAPH-the-organization is a subset of the ACM, specifically the "Special Interest Group on Graphics and Interactive Techniques". Every year they hold a nice big convention (also [...]

ESA Prez confirms: E3 as we know it is dead

Posted by inpheaux on July 31st, 2006 at 8:32 pm

As we reported yesterday, E3 as we know is officially dead. Earlier today Doug Lowenstein, the Electronic Software Association's President, confirmed that the giant yearly blinking-lights-filled nerd fest that people on all sides of the gaming industry have come to love and/or hate is over. Reasons cited are the ones we've all heard: exhibitors pulled [...]

E3 in serious jeopardy, possibly cancelled indefinitely

Posted by inpheaux on July 30th, 2006 at 2:57 pm

Somewhat shocking news from inside the Electronic Software Association today: E3 is potentially over.
Depending on who you ask, E3 is either completely dead or due for massive restructuring. Speculation is presently running rampant, and the ESA staying relatively quiet on the subject, though an official announcement is expected tomorrow.
Next-Gen seems convinced that the show is [...]

Last week Valve said we'd be getting videos this week, and videos we got. I linked to them in the thread on the forums about the TF2 artwork, but now that they're all out I'd toss 'em all out at once.

LucasArts’ Prez: Time is more important than Quality

Posted by inpheaux on June 17th, 2006 at 7:02 am

For anyone who's been attempting to play and enjoy recent games from LucasArts, a formerly epic game developer, this should seem like a no-brainer, but it's nice to see confirmation from up high. LucasArts cares more about deadlines than releasing good polished videogames.
Examine this wonderful quote from a recent interview LEC's President Jim Ward had [...]
