Thursdayton pre-show speculation

Posted by inpheaux on September 13th, 2006 at 11:53 am

Over the next 48 hrs, Nintendo has three press events of substantial size taking place. First in Japan, tonight (???) at 8pm EDT. Then in New York, tomorrow at 9am EDT. Then in Europe, Friday at 7am EDT. Hopefully we should really be getting some serious information in the near future regarding Nintendo's worldwide plans [...]

LucasArts’ Prez: Time is more important than Quality

Posted by inpheaux on June 17th, 2006 at 7:02 am

For anyone who's been attempting to play and enjoy recent games from LucasArts, a formerly epic game developer, this should seem like a no-brainer, but it's nice to see confirmation from up high. LucasArts cares more about deadlines than releasing good polished videogames.
Examine this wonderful quote from a recent interview LEC's President Jim Ward had [...]

Roundabout Wii Pricing: Less than $250

Posted by inpheaux on May 25th, 2006 at 12:46 pm

In a financial press conference today, Nintendo let loose the first ballpark estimation of the Wii's price tag. Technically they said "Less than 25,000 Yen ($222)", but when has something launched across regions for the same actual monetary value? Due to fluxuations like that, most outlets are pegging the US pricerange at $200-$250. I am [...]

E3’s Main Event - The Wii Line

Posted by inpheaux on May 11th, 2006 at 9:17 am

E3 is all about epic larger-than-life things. It's about taking everything normal and making it 50 feet tall so no one can miss it. Of all the things I saw during the first day of E3, one was clearly the largest: The line for the Nintendo Wii exhibit.
Nintendo's exhibit has two main parts this year. [...]

Nintendo @ E3 - Playing = Believing

Posted by inpheaux on May 9th, 2006 at 11:52 pm

Thismorning's Nintendo Press Conference had a rather simple focus: Software. It wasn't big on release dates or prices or new Wii features. In fact, the only new thing we learned about the Wii was that the controller has a speaker in it now, and that the formerly poorly named "a" and "b" buttons have been [...]

Square Enix @ E3 - All Final Fantasy, All the time (plus mobile phone games)

Posted by inpheaux on May 9th, 2006 at 5:29 pm

I meant to find time yesterday evening to write up a report on Square-Enix's Press conference, but right as I sat down to start it, the Sony press conference started up. Luckily, I'm in the middle of a five-hour flight across the country right now, and that's plenty of time to write a recap.
Squeenix's Press [...]

More Pre-E3 Nintendo News - DS Lite June 11th for $130

Posted by inpheaux on May 4th, 2006 at 1:13 pm

Nintendo's second major-announcement-shoe has dropped. A couple hours ago, Nintendo of America let loose the NA street date and price of the DS Lite: June 11th [just over a month from now], $129.99. Two curious things about this announcement, apart from the fact that it's a rather huge one that dropped before E3:
1) Only one [...]

The Revolution gets a name: Nintendo Wii

Posted by inpheaux on April 27th, 2006 at 12:53 pm

I can't help but feel like I'm being trolled.
After years of going under the development codename "Revolution", Nintendo has finally given its next-gen offering a proper name. Wii. Yes, "Wii". No, I am not joking. You can read it on Nintendo's site just as well as I can. There isn't a whole lot there, apart [...]

Nintendo at GDC 2006 - Brain Age and Zelda:DS

Posted by inpheaux on March 23rd, 2006 at 6:08 pm

Oh, Nintendo. Why must you tease us? All week, people have been buzzing around, whispering rumors of super ultra huge news coming from Nintendo at their GDC keynote. Revolution release date? DS Lite stateside release date? Revolution official name [since "Revolution" has always been stated as nothing but a codename]? Some news about Twilight Princess?
No. [...]

Revolution Controller. Seriously.

Posted by inpheaux on September 15th, 2005 at 11:24 pm

I am at a loss for words. In a bad way. Moments ago, this . . thing . . was shown at the Tokyo Game Show. This is the Revolution controller. Apparently a tv remote made by Apple. Before I dive into my own thoughts about all this, have some links:
IGN's 'Live' Keynote Coverage
IGN's In-depth [...]
