Deus Ex 3 formally announced. Why, Eidos, why?

Posted by inpheaux on November 26th, 2007 at 3:19 pm

Earlier in the year - much earlier - Eidos announced plans to open a new big fancy studio in Montreal. Ok, fine, all kinds of developers have studios in Montreal, most notably EA and Ubisoft, but today they actually opened up.
Oh and they announced that their first game would be another multi-platform Deus Ex.
With no [...]

Review Megapost: Shooters, Future Law, Gimmicks and Hobos

Posted by inpheaux on October 28th, 2007 at 8:01 pm

We've been holding onto this set for awhile. It just kept snowballing, you know? Well, here they all are in descending order of quality.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
BioShock - PC / 360 - The best single-player game I've played since System Shock 2.
Portal - PC / 360 (and eventually PS3) - The second-best single-player game I've played since [...]

BAD END: Bioware & Pandemic gobbled-up by EA

Posted by inpheaux on October 11th, 2007 at 7:14 pm

All bad news, all the time.
Out of nowhere, EA has decided that it would be super neat if they went ahead and bought-out Bioware and Pandemic, to build upon their game-development Empire of Doom. If they were another less-established pair of independent developers, sure, this would be pretty decent news, since it would mean stable [...]

Posted by inpheaux on September 13th, 2007 at 5:46 pm

So, since Valve's little announcement stole Fortress Forever's thunder for Monday, the FF team kicked themselves into overdrive and got their mod out today.
Yes, so you can go play it right now. (Windows and Linux dedicated servers are also available.)
Now you can enjoy your bunnyhopping, conc-jumping, grenade-jumping, rocket-jumping, and whatever other kind of jump-based lunacy [...]

Last remnant of FASA closes up shop

Posted by inpheaux on September 12th, 2007 at 8:35 pm

About six years ago FASA Corporation, the Pen & Paper RPG Juggernaut responsible for such licenses as BattleTech and Shadowrun, abruptly closed up shop. Their works lived on, though, as their electronics division had recently been bought by Microsoft, and their PnP games were eventually licensed around to a variety of companies.
Today, FASA Studio, that [...]

The Orange Box is up on Steam right now.
Good News: If you pre-order it now, you save $5 and get to play the Team Fortress 2 beta starting (you guessed it) next [...]

Posted by inpheaux on September 11th, 2007 at 7:54 am

After years of development and constant fears that the game had evaporated, the team behind Fortress Forever have finally set a release date for their HL2 true-to-the-original remake of Team Fortress Classic: Next Monday, 17 SEP 2007.
Fortress Forever is a third-party mod for Half-Life 2 that started years ago because some developers got sick of [...]
