Thursdayton pre-show speculation
Posted by inpheaux on September 13th, 2006 at 11:53 amOver the next 48 hrs, Nintendo has three press events of substantial size taking place. First in Japan, tonight (???) at 8pm EDT. Then in New York, tomorrow at 9am EDT. Then in Europe, Friday at 7am EDT. Hopefully we should really be getting some serious information in the near future regarding Nintendo's worldwide plans [...]
Double Fine scores a publishing contract with Vivendi Games
Posted by inpheaux on September 8th, 2006 at 1:08 pmThings were kinda sketchy there for awhile, between the falling out with Majesco (and Majesco's implosion that followed shortly thereafter) and heading into the bunker of non-communication that most developers head to when they start a new project, but it all seems to have worked out nicely for Tim Schafer and friends at Double Fine. [...]
E3 in serious jeopardy, possibly cancelled indefinitely
Posted by inpheaux on July 30th, 2006 at 2:57 pmSomewhat shocking news from inside the Electronic Software Association today: E3 is potentially over.
Depending on who you ask, E3 is either completely dead or due for massive restructuring. Speculation is presently running rampant, and the ESA staying relatively quiet on the subject, though an official announcement is expected tomorrow.
Next-Gen seems convinced that the show is [...]
Updated: KatamariDamacy.jp closes up shop
Posted by inpheaux on March 14th, 2006 at 11:58 amUPDATE - 17MAR2006 @ 03:09 - Looks like smart money was on paranoia. After two years of dutiful service, katamaridamacy.jp has shut down. An initial translation of the page that remains seems to indicate that the assorted members of the dev team responsible for Katamari Damacy have gone their separate ways, so they've decided to [...]
Next-Gen Bomberman for the 360 revealed
Posted by inpheaux on February 16th, 2006 at 12:30 pmI am at a loss for words. This rarely happens. Usually I can at least come up with something to say when I see some tiny bit of news, but this. . . I just don't know anymore. This is apparently a rather super-early preview article from the latest issue of Famitsu, everyone's favourite weekly [...]
New to the DS: voice chat, download stations, possible web browser
Posted by inpheaux on February 9th, 2006 at 3:35 pmKing_Andy, our resident Virtual Reality Specialist, tends to take every chance he gets to bemoan the fact that apart from Nintendogs, the only thing DS games seem to use the microphone input for is to detect blowing. Furthermore, he [and others, obviously] has argued that surely there's enough overhead in WFC to permit voice chat, [...]
Stargate: SG1 - The Alliance Canned? Again?
Posted by inpheaux on January 22nd, 2006 at 2:35 amSorry if this is starting to sound repetitive, but it looks like Stargate: SG1 - The Alliance may be down for the count this time.
In a post to their forums yesterday, one of the admins of the semi-official fansite Stargate-Game.com announced that he had word from inside Perception [the game's developers] stating that after years [...]
No DS redesign yet, is anyone surprised?
Posted by inpheaux on January 17th, 2006 at 1:04 amWell, since the 16th is now officially gone in all but a couple timezones that matter, it's pretty safe to assume that the rumors that came to a head last week about a theoretical redesign of the Nintendo DS are completely unfounded. It also helps that Nintendo of Europe [everyone's least-favourite Branch of Nintendo, whose [...]
No countdown page has ever lived up to the hype
Posted by inpheaux on September 27th, 2005 at 10:39 amThere. I said it.
I didn't report on "OrigenXbox360" back when it first surfaced earlier this month because it seemed to be all fluff. Sure, there were your standard rabid fanboy hopes and dreams being strewn about, but I didn't buy it. This isn't how Microsoft promotes a massive game announcement or release. And hell, something [...]
Corporate Buyout Conspiracy Theories
Posted by inpheaux on August 23rd, 2005 at 8:54 amPlease don your tinfoil hats, we've got two Big Ones today.
First, merger news is nothing new in the Japanese game industry, everyone seems to be huddling together over there just to try and survive. Just in recent years we've seen Square and Enix, Sega and Sammy, the weird transformation process from SNK to SNK Playmore, [...]
